For the first half of the Autumn term we will be working around the theme of ‘Crazy Compositions’, thinking outside the box and creating fun and unexpected still life set ups while working with a new material each session.

After half term we will be looking at natural forms, being inspired by the fascinating shapes and patterns the natural world provides us!

COLOUR

  • Week 1 - Observing colour tones in fruit with watercolour.

  • Week 2 - Looking at monochrome drawing or restricted pallets.

  • Week 3 - Making colourful paper sculptures.

  • Week 4 - Creating bold collaged flowers inspired by artist Jessica Graham.

  • Week 5 -Printing positive affirmation posters

  • Week 6 - Making colour mood boards, thinking about how colour and line and texture can represent emotions.

LAYERS AND TEXTURES

  • Week 1 - Designing signature characters inspired by street art in skate parks.

  • Week 2 - Collagraph printing

  • Week 3 - Creating surrealist landscapes with torn magazine paper.

  • Week 4 - Creating layers with pastels.

  • Week 5 - Concertinaed story telling

MOVEMENT

  • Week 1 - Scribble drawings inspired by Quentin Blake portraits

  • Week 2 - Stop frame drawings of moving LEGO people

  • Week 3 - Marble rolling pictures inspired by Jackson Pollock and Kandinsky.

  • Week 4 - Making mobiles

REUSE, RENEW, RECYCLE

  • Week 1 - Making post Christmas still lives from recycling and Christmas leftovers.

  • Week 2 - Adding recycling to famous paintings!

  • Week 3 - Creating colourful prints of mass produced household items.

  • Week 4 - Using recycling to make marks.

  • Week 5 - Painting valentines cards using natural occurring pigment.

ARCHITECTURE

  • Week 1 - Printing with lego bricks to design a city scape.

  • Week 2 - Making abstract stained glass windows. Watercolour on tracing paper.

  • Week 3 - Making architectural surrounds for tea lights out of clay.

  • Week 4 - Gingerbread house mono printing.

  • Week 5 - Designing and building paper houses.

THE ART OF THEATRE

  • Week 1 - Mask making. Creating monster masks inspired by 'Where the Wild Things Are'

  • Week 2 - Costume design. Having a go at some life drawing with some dressing up clothes.

  • Week 3 - Shadow puppets

  • Week 4 - Prop making. Creating a spell recipe with some stick and ink observational drawing.

  • Week 5 - Make-up design. Learning the basics of drawing a face while designing a Halloween makeup.

  • Week 6 - Lighting design - Making a Halloween lantern.

THE ART OF WORDS

  • Week 1 - Illustrated letters inspired by Lucy Wightwick

  • Week 2 - Illustrated Poems inspired by Tim Burton and Quentin Blake!

  • Week 3 - Designing super heroes using collaged text

  • Week 4 - Creating an eco comic

  • Week 5 - Eco protest posters!

  • Week 6 - Designing the album cover/art work for our favourite songs!

SOIL

  • Week 1 - Drawing weeds.

  • Week 2 - Abstracting flowers inspired by the work of Melanie Russell.

  • Week 3 - Finger painting with clay (what lives underground)

  • Week 4 - Plant pot design

PRINT AND PATTERN

  • Week 1 - Repeat patterns printing with random objects found at home.

  • Week 2 - Radiating pattern with a bean and pulses mosaic.

  • Week 3 - Creating abstract patterns in a mobile.

  • week 4 - 3 part landscape print with polystyrene.

  • Week 5 - Collaborative print making!

DEEP UNDER THE SEA

  • Week 1 - Creating sea monsters/creatures using collage

  • Week 2 - Underwater paintings using the wax resist technique

  • Week 3 - Constructing a paper cup coral reef sculpture

  • week 4 - Bioluminescent sea creatures with pastels.

  • Week 5 - Valentines sardines tins!

STILL LIFE

  • Week 1 - Monoprinting with pastels colour.

  • Week 4 - Making spell recipes with some observational drawing of natural objects.

  • Week 5 - Painting pumpkins with watercolour, looking at colour and texture.

LANDSCAPES

  • Week 1 - Seaside landscapes with pastels

  • Week 2 - Forest landscapes, painting with recycling.

  • Week 3 - Urban landscapes using layered paper.

  • Week 4 - Painting wild flower meadows with balloons!

ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONS

  • Week 1 - Printing with toys and recycling over paper cut outs.

  • Week 2 - Abstract sewing into hessian using wool, ribbon and beads.

  • Week 3 - Face printing and then drawing over the top with biro with a continuous or scribbly line.

  • Week 4 - Painting by rolling marbles across the page and using masking tape to block out sections.

  • Week 5 - Paper weaving.

  • Week 6 - Drawing in response to music!
